The stunning marble altar at Stonyhurst College in Lancashire was restored by Alberti, Lupton & Co before being placed there in 2015.
The marble altar was donated by John and Bridget Weld Blundell of Leagram Hall in the Forest of Bowland. However it needed a good clean and the work was undertaken by Alberti, Lupton & Co. We undertook specialist cleaning and polishing so that it was in pristine condition when it was ready to be placed at the college’s St Peter’s Church, where the floor was specially strengthened in readiness for the installation.
The new marble altar was donated around the same time that the church was given Grade I listed status by Historic England and the restoration featured in the Lancashire Telegraph.
