Trafford Cemeteries

 

Trafford Council manage one crematorium and five cemeteries. Of these, Hale cemetery no longer has new graves available, although burials can take place in existing ones. Dunham lawn cemetery has a separate Muslim section and Childrens garden where small plots are available for stillborn and baby burials.

Cemetery Charges

 

Please click here for a full list of Trafford Council's fees and charges. Below are the costs of purchasing graves and burials. As with many local authorities, fees differ depending on whether the deceased is a resident.

Permitted Sizes

Memorial sizes differ across Trafford.

 

Dunham Lawn - maximum height 2 feet six inches, maximum width  3 feet, minimum depth 3 inches.

 

Dunham Lawn (Sections A-E only) - maximum height 9 inches, maximum width 2 feet 6 inches, maximum depth 12 inches.

 

Hale - maximum height 3 feet, maximum width 3 feet, minimum depth 3 inches.

 

Sale - maximum height 3 feet, maximum width 3 feet, minimum depth 3 inches.

 

Stretford - maximum height 3 feet, maximum width 3 feet, minimum depth 3 inches.

 

Stretford (Secction AA only) - maximum height 2 feet 6inches, maximum width 3 feet, minimum depth 3 inches.

 

Urmston - maximum height 3 feet, maximum width 3 feet, minimum depth three inches.

 

 

Foundations

In all of Trafford's cemeteries, if an existing raft is not in place, foundation stones must not be more than 3 feet by 15 inches. They must be level and its back must be in line with the front edge of the turf on the next row of graves. There should be a minimum of 6 inches between foundations.

 

Kerb Sets

No kerbs, border stones, tiles, slates, raised mounds, turf banking or wooden erections are permitted in Trafford's cemeteries. 

Additional Notes

Trafford's cemeteries are open every day of the year, including Christmas Day. Hours are as follows:-

 

April to September - 8am to 7pm Monday to Friday, 9am to 4.30pm weekends.

 

October to March - 8am to 4.30pm Monday to Friday, 9am to 4.30pm weekends.

 

Bank Holidays - 9am to 4.30pm.

 

Christmas Day - 8.30am to 4.30pm.

Administration for all of Trafford's cemeteries is carried out at Altrincham Crematorium.

Cemetery Regulations

With the exception of memorial size limits, which differ slightly between each site, the following regulations apply to all of Trafford's cemeteries:-

 

In all of Trafford's cemeteries, if an existing raft is not in place, foundation stones must not be more than 3 feet by 15 inches. They must be level and its back must be in line with the front edge of the turf on the next row of graves. There should be a minimum of 6 inches between foundations.

 

No kerbs, border stones, tiles, slates, raised mounds, turf banking or wooden erections are permitted in Trafford's cemeteries. 

 

All memorials at Trafford's cemeteries should be made out of natural stone.

 

No trees, shrubs or planting other than low growing material should be placed on the grave and all planting should be contained in the soil area at the head of the grave.

 

No interference by the public in the scheme of layout in the planting, graves or borders are permitted. Trafford Council reserves the right to move dead flowers, wreaths etc at all times. The council has the authority to remove without notice, anything placed on or around a grave which contravenes these regulations.
