Trafford Council manage one crematorium and five cemeteries. Hale is the only one of the Trafford cemeteries where graves are no longer available, although burials can take place in existing ones. Dunham lawn cemetery has a separate Muslim section and Childrens garden where small plots are available for stillborn and baby burials.

Permitted Sizes

Memorial sizes differ across Trafford.

Dunham Lawn – maximum height 2 feet six inches, maximum width 3 feet, minimum depth 3 inches.

Dunham Lawn (Sections A-E only) – maximum height 9 inches, maximum width 2 feet 6 inches, maximum depth 12 inches.

Hale – maximum height 3 feet, maximum width 3 feet, minimum depth 3 inches.

Sale – maximum height 3 feet, maximum width 3 feet, minimum depth 3 inches.

Stretford – maximum height 3 feet, maximum width 3 feet, minimum depth 3 inches.

Stretford (Secction AA only) – maximum height 2 feet 6inches, maximum width 3 feet, minimum depth 3 inches.

Urmston – maximum height 3 feet, maximum width 3 feet, minimum depth three inches.

Foundations

In all of Trafford’s cemeteries, if an existing raft is not in place, foundation stones must not be more than 3 feet by 15 inches. They must be level and its back must be in line with the front edge of the turf on the next row of graves. There should be a minimum of 6 inches between foundations.

Kerb Sets

No kerbs, border stones, tiles, slates, raised mounds, turf banking or wooden erections are permitted in Trafford’s cemeteries.

Additional Notes

Trafford’s cemeteries are open every day of the year, including Christmas Day. Hours are as follows:-

April to September – 8am to 7pm Monday to Friday, 9am to 4.30pm weekends.

October to March – 8am to 4.30pm Monday to Friday, 9am to 4.30pm weekends.

Bank Holidays – 9am to 4.30pm.

Christmas Day – 8.30am to 4.30pm.
